Amboseli is one of Kenya’s most iconic parks, famously known as “The Home of Elephants.” It’s a haven for some of Africa’s largest elephant herds, often seen against the breathtaking backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro. The park is also home to a wide variety of wildlife including zebras, wildebeests, giraffes, buffalos, hippos, and several species of antelope.
Keep an eye out for predators such as lions, cheetahs, hyenas, and the elusive bat-eared fox. The open plains and scattered volcanic rock formations offer a dramatic setting for wildlife viewing. Return to camp in the late afternoon for dinner and overnight.
In 10 Days Amboseli / Mt. Kenya / Samburu / Nakuru / Masai Mara;
After breakfast, depart from Amboseli and travel via Nairobi towards Naru Moru, located at the base of Mount Kenya. Enjoy a scenic drive with a picnic lunch along the way.
Spend the afternoon at leisure. You may choose to take a guided walk to the historic Mau Mau Caves or enjoy horseback riding through the tranquil highland landscapes (optional activities arranged by the hotel).
Dinner and overnight stay at a comfortable hotel nestled at the foot of Mount Kenya, where you can relax and take in the cool mountain air.
09:00 hrs: After breakfast, depart Naru Moru and journey north through the dramatic landscapes of Kenya’s northern frontier, arriving at Samburu Game Reserve in time for a hot lunch at the lodge.
Spend the early afternoon relaxing at the lodge or by the pool, soaking in the dry wilderness atmosphere unique to Samburu. For those interested in cultural experiences, an optional visit to a nearby Samburu tribal village can be arranged (at an additional cost). This visit offers a glimpse into the traditional lifestyle, beadwork, and customs of one of Kenya’s most fascinating indigenous communities.
15:30 hrs: Head out for an exciting afternoon game drive in Samburu Game Reserve. This reserve is known for its striking arid terrain, rugged hills, and the Ewaso Nyiro River that attracts abundant wildlife. During the game drive, look out for the “Samburu Special Five” — the rare Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, Somali ostrich, gerenuk, and Beisa oryx — species that are found only in northern Kenya.
In addition to these unique animals, Samburu is also home to lions, elephants, leopards, and a wide variety of birdlife. The open savannahs and riverine forests provide excellent opportunities for photography and wildlife observation.
Return to the lodge in the early evening for dinner and overnight.
After Breakfast Begin your day with an early morning game drive in Samburu Game Reserve, when the cool morning air brings wildlife activity to life. This is one of the best times to spot lions, leopards, and cheetahs as they wind down from their night hunts. You’ll also likely encounter elephant herds heading toward the Ewaso Nyiro River, as well as gazelles, impalas, and other plains game emerging into the day.
Return to the lodge for a well-deserved breakfast, followed by some time to relax and take in the peaceful surroundings.
Later, return to the lodge for lunch, enjoying the unique views of Samburu’s arid yet beautiful terrain.
15:30 hrs: After a short rest, set out for your afternoon game drive. Explore more of Samburu’s dramatic scenery — from doum palm groves to dry riverbeds and rocky ridges. Keep an eye out for the Samburu Special Five: reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, Somali ostrich, gerenuk, and Beisa oryx — all adapted to this distinctive semi-desert environment.
You may also see elephants bathing, vultures circling overhead, or giraffes feeding at sunset. Return to the lodge as the day ends for dinner and overnight.
07:30 hrs: After breakfast, depart Samburu and journey south towards Thomson’s Falls, enjoying a scenic picnic lunch en route. The falls are a stunning natural feature with misty spray and beautiful views — a perfect stop to stretch your legs and take some photos.
Continue your drive to Lake Nakuru National Park, famous for its spectacular birdlife and diverse wildlife.
Upon arrival, embark on an afternoon game drive in Lake Nakuru National Park. Here, you have excellent chances to see rhinos, both black and white, roaming the park’s lush grounds. Witness the dazzling pink hues of flamingos that gather in their thousands on the lake’s shores — often called the “World’s Greatest Bird Spectacle.”
After a rewarding afternoon, depart around 18:00 hrs for Lake Elementaita, for Dinner and Overnight.
07:00 hrs: After breakfast, depart Lake Elementaita and drive through the lush Mau Forest and Nakuru en route to the iconic Masai Mara Game Reserve. Enjoy the changing landscapes as you journey deeper into Kenya’s wilderness.
On arrival at the camp, relax with a delicious lunch, then set out for an afternoon game drive. Seek out the famous black-maned lions, majestic elephants, elusive leopards, swift cheetahs, and robust buffalo, alongside many other plains game species.
As the sun sets over the Mara plains, return to camp for dinner and overnight, embraced by the sounds of the wild.
Rise early for one of the best game drives of the day. After Breakfast and warm cup of Chai (tea) or Kahawa (coffee), head out into the Masai Mara Game Reserve while the cool morning air sharpens your senses. This is an excellent time to spot predators like lion, leopard, cheetah, and hyena as they are often more active during these hours.
Return to camp for a lunch
15:30 hrs: Set out for a full afternoon game drive. Each drive explores a different part of the reserve, maximizing your chances to discover new wildlife and stunning scenery. As the day winds down, watch the breathtaking Mara sunset before returning to camp for dinner and overnight.
Hopefully by now, you’ve had the thrill of spotting the Big Five. If not, today gives us the perfect opportunity to complete the checklist.
Your day is flexible and can be tailored to your preferences in consultation with your driver-guide. You may choose between a full-day game drive or morning and afternoon game drives — whichever suits your style of exploration.
08:00 hrs: After breakfast, set off for another memorable day in the Masai Mara. We begin the morning in search of the big cats — lion, leopard, cheetah — as well as hyenas, elephants, and the many species of plains game that roam the savannah. The Masai Mara is also home to a rich variety of colorful birdlife, making this drive a delight for wildlife and bird enthusiasts alike.
As the day progresses, we make our way leisurely toward the Mara River, one of the most iconic spots in the reserve. Between July and October, this river is the stage for the famed wildebeest and zebra migration crossing — one of nature’s most dramatic spectacles. Outside migration season, the area still teems with activity and offers incredible scenery and wildlife encounters.
Enjoy a picnic lunch at the Hippo Pool, a peaceful riverside location where you can step out of the vehicle, stretch your legs, and watch hippos and crocodiles in their natural habitat. A short walk with a warden is also available for those who’d like to explore a little more on foot.
After a fulfilling day in the wild, return to camp for dinner and overnight.

Tamara Z2025-04-17Verified Amazing Safari in Masai Mara We found Best Camping Tour in a guide book and thanks to that book! We were able to get in touch with Imran who took the time to explain every possibilities and then making sure that every aspect of our tour was exactly how we imagined. The campsite is really nice, situated next to a river between the threes. The landscape view is wonderfull. We were taken care of by some super friendly locals whom were part of the staff. During the safari, we were able to see plenty of animals. Amazing experience. NSM06122025-03-01Verified Really the best We have been going to Best Camping since 2013 and have visited 5 times so far including 2 in the last one year. In every instance, Imraan and team has taken absolute care. . This trip was a 6 nights to Masai Mara with my father of 70 plus years. The entire plan was drawn up in less than 2 days. Imraan is always available and responds in minutes. The personal attention (and it is personal) is really appreciable. The last 6 days with Simon on this trip was great fun. Simon is 62, but his enthusiasm for seeing and showing you the wonderful wildlife and sceneries of masai Mara are of a teenager! We drove off every day at 6 AM and returned at 7 PM with a short lunch break. Each drive was engaging and lead to new experiences. We stayed at Keekorok and Fig tree camp. Thank you Imaan and Simon! Can’t wait for next time! Luca S2025-02-24Verified A really great safari We did a 5-day safari with Best Camping Tours and it was great! We stayed 3 nights in the Masai Mara, one night at Lake Nakuru and one night at Ol Pejeta and were very impressed with all the accommodation. The planning with Imraan was very easy and in our case even very spontaneous. He was also available around the clock to answer to all our questions.Special thanks to our driver Abdallah, who had incredible experience and was even able to show us all the Big 5. We also learned a lot about the country, its people, society, politics and cuisine from him, not only during the game drives but also over dinners together! We will definitely recommend the company! Zarif K2025-02-16Verified Best camping is the best I can't thank Best Camping enough for the amazing experience and the professional service. My wife and I did the 7 day experience starting at Masaai Mara and ended up at Amboseli game reserve. The planning was spot on and the accomodation and locations of each were top class. Our driver, guide and now friend - Abdullah - made the experience so fulfilling. His knowledge of wildlife, cultures and history made the trip worthwhile alone. He is a local celebrity with all the other drivers, hotel staff and locals so happy to see him. We managed to see the big 5 many times over and have so many memories to take away. Thank you so much Imraan and team for the great service and wonderful experience. Mui2025-02-03Verified Awe-inspiring time in Masai Mara & Lake Nakuru with Best Camping Tours We had a wonderful tour with Best Camping Tours. Our guide, Abdallah, was so committed & ensured we saw all the Big-5s & so much more. The cheetahs in Masai Mara were awe inspiring. And the rhinos in Lake Nakuru were simply phenomenal. Will definitely recommend Best Camping to all our friends & family! Prabhu F2025-01-07Verified A Memorable Kenyan Adventure with Best Camping From the very beginning, Imraan and his team at Best Camping exceeded our expectations. They worked closely with us, accommodating our suggestions and lodging preferences. Even as our plans evolved over the year—adding options and then revisiting earlier decisions—Imraan remained patient and supportive while we finalized the itinerary.Once we landed in Nairobi, Imraan and Shifana made us feel at home and ease. Abdallah, our guide and driver, was incredibly knowledgeable - particularly, his ability to pick out birds and then refer to them in his book was awesome. We had a great time on the Safaris themselves, seeing all the big 5 and enjoying the various birds in Nakuru.Abdallah went out of his way to showcase Kenya's beauty and hospitality. When our transfer day took longer than expected during to traffic jams, he ensured the hotel was informed and made up for it by arranging an early morning safari the next day. On our final day, after a full-day safari, we mentioned not wanting to leave Kenya—and Abdallah graciously offered to take us on an evening safari as well, without hesitation. His kindness and enthusiasm never wavered. When we told him we loved the Kenyan-style chapati, he even took us to a local shop to buy Kenyan flour to bring back home.We can’t conclude this review without mentioning Thomas, who provided excellent local support in Nairobi. Best Camping truly went above and beyond to pamper us, and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Overall we loved the Amboseli -> Nakuru -> Mara trip (we skipped the Naivasha day) and hope to be back soon. Markus2025-01-06Verified Amazing 11-Day Tour With our 3 children (7, 9 and 12 years) we did an 11-day private safari tour with Best Camping. Start and finish was Nairobi with the following stations: Lake Nakuru, Lake Elementita, Lake Naivasha (with Hells Gate NP and Mount Longonot) and Masai Mara. With Paul we had a great driver and guide. We were well looked after at all times and had wonderful and extensive game drives. Imraan was also always available for questions. In the Masai Mara we stayed at the Best Camping Camp. If you like it simple and authentic, just like us, you are in good hands there. We were super looked after and cooked by the team on site. Thanks to the whole Best Camping team. These were 11 very impressive days on a super safari that we will never forget. We would book at any time again at Best Camping.
